OPERATIONS
Nash County EMS provides Paramedic level care to a population of 91,000 in Nash County with annual call volume of approximately 20,000 calls per year. Nash County EMS provides paramedic level care, as well as non-emergency ambulance services. Nash County EMS employs 72 full time employees and 40 part-time employees. The service was established in 1986 and has continued to grow. Currently, Nash County EMS operates eight 24-hour ambulances, one quick response vehicle, four non-emergency transport units, one Assistant Supervisor and one Supervisor on quick response vehicles. The service works in unison with sixteen volunteer and paid first responders departments to cover 100% of the county. Nash County EMS remains on the cutting edge of technology with state of the art equipment such as 12 Lead EKG and transmission, pulse oximetry, capnography, CPAP, ventilators, IV pumps and EZ-IO's while operating under an aggressive set of patient care protocols.
Protocols, Procedures and Policies
NON-EMERGENCY TRANSPORT
Nash County EMS supports a non-emergency transport service to provide schedule trips to hospitals, doctor's offices, clinics, and discharges from the hospital. This division provides transport for stretcher/bed confined patients. These units are staffed with a minimum of two NC Emergency Medical Technicians and provide service Monday through Friday during the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. CONTINUING EDUCATION
Nash County EMS boasts a strong educational background. In-house continuing education classes are held monthly with all personnel being required to maintain a minimum of 24 hours training annually. Nash County EMS routinely calls upon experts to provide quality education to its employees. Nash County EMS requires its paramedics to maintain ACLS, BLS, BTLS and PALS certifications.
SPECIAL OPERATIONS NASH EMERGENCY BIKE TEAM
Nash County EMS has paramedics on bikes to assist with large events in the county such as the Nashville Blooming Festival, the Castalia Fourth of July celebration, the Spring Hope Pumpkin Festival, and the Down East Festival. The team consists of 4 mountain bikes equipped with BLS and ALS equipment. The bike teams are able to respond more efficiently in crowded response areas providing quicker advanced care. Members of the team receive specialized training on advanced bike operations.
SPECIAL MEDICAL ASSISTANCE TEAM
Nash County EMS hosts a SMAT III team. This team is ready to respond and provide medical assistance to any disaster situation. The SMAT III specializes in the decontamination and treatment of victims from a chemical, biological or nuclear emergency.

US&R DISASTER MEDICAL SPECIALIST
Nash County EMS has a team of trained Disaster Medical Specialist with the knowledge and skills to perform medical assessments and treatments at various disaster events, which meets or exceeds the Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) requirements, set forth by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
