The Division of Fire and Rescue Services

Test Your Smoke Detectors Every WeekThe Division of Fire and Rescue Services is responsible for coordination of fire protection activities of the 15 fire departments located throughout Nash County. The Fire Marshal's Office assists the departments with training and equipment needs and responds to major incidents. The Fire Marshal also provides fire prevention inspections in all commercial buildings in Nash County to ensure their compliance with North Carolina Fire Codes. The Fire Marshal and his staff participate in fire investigations with other fire and law enforcement agencies. The Fire Services Division also operates a fire safety house that is used to educate children on the proper way to react to a fire. It is carried to schools and civic functions and set up to provide children with a real live scenario of a house fire.

Some important facts about how Emergency Services are provided in Nash County and how you can join:

Volunteers Provide the Fire and Rescue Protection in Your Community (Outside of the Cities of Rocky Mount).
There are 16 fire and/or rescue departments and approximately 600+ volunteer firefighters in Nash County.

  • No previous emergency services experience or training is required to volunteer.
  • The Fire-Rescue Association offers a Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) which rewards members for years of service.
  • Many departments offer a Junior Firefighter program for youths age 14-18 and/or a men/ladies auxiliary.
  • All departments offer FREE training, personal protection equipment, pagers, uniforms, and/or other department apparel.
  • Most departments provide pension fund and life insurance and workers compensation insurance
